(A personal tribute to Michael Jackson upon his death on June 25, 2009.  His album or song titles were shown in italics.)

Hail to the King of Pop, R&B and Rock,

A pioneer and master in MTV,

Idol of the Boomers and X Generations,

Destroyer of racial, cultural and national barriers.

We Remember the Time

Of your national debut when you were 10.

And for the next 40 years,

Always Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ new.

Attracting audience Black or White

Some parents call you Bad and Dangerous,

Frowning at the way you Shake Your Body

And their children Scream when you perform!

Your Off the Wall idiosyncrasies,

Fall victim to tabloid exploits.

Their shameless pursuit of voyeuristic interest,

Showing our Human Nature at its worst.

You Are Not Alone in this cynical world,

Fans all over the world join in a chant:

We Are the World

And I Just Can’t Stop Loving You!

Touching us not only with your music,

Your robot and moonwalk artistry,

But also your generosity in aiding the needy,

And your desire To Heal the World.

On the day you die, we can hear you singing:

“My whole life is a Thriller,

No one is InvincibleWhat More Can I Give?

To all my fans, This Is It!

Yet The Legend Continues

We thank you for being who you are

And we lament that you are Gone Too Soon

We shall remember you Forever, Michael!
