Peter Cheung:

I always wonder how compression socks work. After googling, here my understanding. The socks compress the foots and limit the flow of blood to the foots---that's the artery flow.. People with peripheral artery disease should not use it. When the flow of blood to the feet is less, the volume of blood that the veins have to return to the upper body is less---therefore less edma, less waste product staying in the lower extremities, therefore less tired feet.

Why the compression does not limit the return flow in the veins? It may but less so than the arteries because veins are more into the tissues and arteries are more superficial. It is important not to use ones that are too tight for you feet. 7 mm or 15 mm refers to the tightness(mmHg) of the socks. It may or may not work for you. I will give it a try.

Sue:

Thanks so much for the scientific explanation as I always wonder how it really works. What you said makes so much sense. I always wonder also who can benefit from it and how it may be inappropriate for some conditions.

I use the 15mm but my friend's doctor starts her on 30mm which I question if it's too much all at once. On a regular basis, I wear the ones just below the knees.Among my group of dance friends, we talked about how our aging body is not fit for dancing and all complain about knee pain, bunion, tired feet, etc. Many are taking Glucosamine regularly, the effect varies on individual.

Ever since I started wearing the compression socks, I found that it made a big difference for me even after some pretty rigorous training and days we would add in a golf or badminton or tennis game.(I should be hired as a spokeperson for the product : >). Again it may or may not be suitable nor would it work for some, but worth a try.

Thanks again for providing such informative insights always.
