Being parents

Peter Wu & Others

Peter:      Peter Cheung, what’s wrong with eating too much cheese cake and ice cream?

Hey don’t forget your ‘thousand gold’ is one of the Y generation so their tastes and preferences are vastly different to ours.

I remember at your daughter’s age, I didn’t know what a cheese cake was. Ice cream was strictly a luxury. Morning and afternoon snacks? What are they?

My mother constantly scolded me for eating shitload of crab from road-side hawkers, like fish balls, wun tun noodles, tripes, that kind of things.

At least your ‘thousand gold’ is eating ‘healthy’ stuff.

I just find it so ironic that we humans cannot find a happy medium. When we didn’t have enough to eat which was not too long ago, we worried about a lack of nutrition and bodily health. Now we have too much to eat we also worry about (too much) nutrition and (too rich) bodily health.

Is the core issue more to do with the weaknesses (and recklessness) of human nature instead of with the quantity of foods?

Peter

Cheung:   Peter, there is nothing wrong with eating cheese cake and ice cream.

I actually enjoy the time my daughter share with me in cooking together.

I have no evidence that eating too much of these rich foods will cause headaches in some people. It is just a wild guess.

I am interested in clinical nutrition, foods we eat that can change our health and mood. When there is a pain, I try to figure out the cause.

But Peter, do you have a daughter?

The relationship of father-daughter is very different from a father-son.

I just worry more about my daughter than my son.

Peter:      Excellent. I am glad you enjoy cheesecakes and ice creams.

I am even happier to know of your wonderful relationship with your ‘thousand gold’.

You are a wonderful father to your children.

No I don’t have a daughter although my wife would love to have one. Too late and too bad. Engine malfunction…you know what I mean!

As parents we are all worried about our children at one time or another, irrespective of their gender and age.

Different age brings different issues and problems as does their gender.

There is no such a thing as worry-free parents. I gather this is human and parental instinct.

The fact that you are worried about your children is entirely natural to me, as we all are. If you are not, then I am worried.

Now go and have more cheesecakes and ice creams.

Peter

Cheung:   A few months ago I was told she was dating someone at school. I didnt ask any question. Just leave it like that.

My junk food is tortilla chips or raw veggies and home-made salsa or hummus. I will eat anything that you cook for me!
