"The Short and Happy Life of Solo Ming"

Bob Choi

30 October 2012

Not particularly tall or handsome -- Adonis he was not,

Yet women flocked to him for something he got!

He cooed the ladies with his bad boy charm,

And then got on and off like a merry-go-round.

Fell from a height that would kill even a cat,

He survived and joked about cheating death!

Live for the moment was his personal motto,

Avoiding life hard decisions, he cruised in pilot auto.

Wandering from port to port he remained carefree,

Traditional family values were not his cup of tea.

He said Money and women: easy come -- easy go,

Spend them, love them, but don’t keep or hold!

Friends loved him for his zest, gusto and candor,

Now that he gone we shall always remember:

His trademark smile and the twinkles in his eyes --

Saying Don’t worry, be happy; just live and let die!

[This poem was dedicated to my friend Chan Ting Ming who died from natural causes on February 28, 2006 in Hong Kong, at the age of 54.]
