Basically all power struggles are nasty and dirty, worst of all political power struggles because the end result could mean live and death, or extremely long prison sentences. The Cultural Revolution is a prime example. The purge of the Four-Man Gang is another.

I’ve been following Bo Xilai’s story for a while, through exclusively reports in the New York Times. Their reports may or may not be independent or trustworthy but I do have more faith in the independence of reporting in leading western media than Chinese media, especially those coming from China, or are known to be the mouth-pieces of the Communist Party.

I am still unsure what he might have done to court the full fury of the Party. Like Bob said, it is naïve for us to think he is the only one. If we were to dig a little deeper, our very own Bowtie Tsang could be another Bo Xilai in the making, albeit on a relatively smaller scale. The difference between the two is that Bowtie has got away with it while Bo has not.
