There was an earthquake in North Island of NZ. We are fine. It happened almost 570 km away (from Auckland) in a low-densely rural area. That explains why I didn’t feel a thing although it was a sizeable one – 6.2 at the Richter scale. There were some minor property damages but no reports of injuries and deaths. Mother nature has caught up with us too. While we have been spared some freak and extreme weathers – Polar blast in Eastern USA, severe drought in California, heat waves in Oz, storms in the UK, this earthquake has shown that we are not immune from the quirks of mother nature. One interesting thing about this earthquake is that it happened right in the middle of a Grey Hound Race. The commentator continued to call the race while the ground was shaking, and the Grey Hounds were barrelling down the track as if nothing had happened. That took guts and steady nerves. If I were him, my repertoire of choice four-letter words would have blurted out of my mouth, before I bolted out of the door like greased lightning. I probably go down in history and Youtube as the race commentator with the most colourful lingo, and barred from ever stepping back into the commentator box! |
